I’ve not managed to wangle a holiday at the Royal yet this week. There wasn’t a bed available when I rang yesterday morning. The young lady I spoke to said I should ring that afternoon or this morning. I said that last time they’d just called me when everything was set up and she said that would be fine – which means I’m not mithering them AND I don’t have to remember to ring! I know how could I forget but a little bit of distraction on the way to the phone and it’s next Tuesday I’m ringing in!
I do need to ring the dentist tomorrow. I’ve got a check-up booked shortly but a tooth bothered me about a week ago – only a twinge but today I’ve developed a numb bit on my lip and chin and when I bite down my teeth feel funny. I don’t know whether this is just me or its the same for everyone, because I’ve never thought to ask before, but I have real trouble pinpointing where toothache is. What I mean is the exact tooth and sometimes (not that I get it a lot but I did have a spell of it a few years ago) although the main pain is at the top it seems like the bottom hurts – maybe that is just me. I started thinking that I had a numbness in the right hand side of my chin last September at the same time I had the numbness in my thumb and down my right forearm however it disappeared shortly after – as they all did. Even though the MRI didn’t show up any myeloma lesions in my jaw where the nerve that would cause it is located I just figured it was related however now I’m thinking that maybe it was a tooth infection that was cleared up by the antibiotics I got at the time so I better get this checked out just in case. I mean how would it look going in for my next lot of chemotherapy and saying ‘I don’t need to get an infection while I’m in as I brought my own’.
In the meantime I got to go to yoga this afternoon (oh, and I had my last two stitches out today) which I can’t refer to as Armchair Yoga today as we actually did more that just the balance standing up – STANDING UP! It was very nearly exercise – not really but it was as close to exercise as I get. I would also point out that I was the only member of the group today who was under 60.
And yesterday I made a Buddy. It needed to be a vibrant Buddy. It was to be a get well gift for a lady in hospital and as flowers are no longer allowed the gifter (is that a word) wanted something bright to raise the giftee’s (what the heck it matches) spirits when she looked at it. I mentioned a bright pink and that was acceptable and went with an equally bright green.
I just wasn’t happy with the Buddy’s mouth so I had to unstuff his head and re-do it. I was much happier with the expression and I think he looks happier too.
I had a little assistant for the Buddy photography session. My assistant would have liked to get to know the knitted Buddy a bit better.
It was after it was requested that ‘by Easter’ was mentioned and I didn’t realise Easter was so close. I didn’t think I’d get it done but as it is it’s looking like I might manage it – once I’ve undone the cast off edge of the button band and cast off with a smaller needle because I’m not happy or even satisfied with the wibbly-ness of it.

Here’s the stuff I’m entering in tomorrow’s Village Show. You’ll have to excuse the doll’s somewhat un-chaste demeanour – I wanted you to see her underskirt (which is a full one) and her bloomers. I have to admit I didn’t make her – she is my Auntie Eleanors’s creation.
Please bear in mind if you comment that I don’t want to read the words ‘over the top’! I was going to cut it back and save some for next year but then I thought ‘Hey, seize that carp, you might get hit by a bus before then.’
A celebratory drink of course so I think I’ll have a Lime and Soda.
Now although I don’t normally add Myeloma Buddies to the Myeloma Buddies page until after the recipient is in receipt I didn’t want you all thinking that I’d been skiving when I wasn’t gallivanting off to the hospital over the past, very nearly, three months so I’m making an exception in this case. Although you will have to wait to find out where this little Buddy party is off to.
So after lots and lots of knitting, sewing and stuffing (ahem, minds out of the gutter please) here’s what 100 orange Myeloma Buddies look like…
The first 50 were the hardest taking from the beginning of February until 3 April.
The next 50 took me 25 days exactly. Which I know only amounts to two Buddies a day even though some days I knit five Buddy bodies, arms, assembly and personality insertion averaged it out to two per day.
Each one has exactly the same number of stitches and rows, and the same eyes and mouth in the same places and yet each one is unique in its own little way.
Oops, bit of a scuffle broke out at the front.
Ahhh, all sorted.
I just need to give them all ribboned tags tomorrow and they’ll be on their way as hopefully will the little bit of a rash which has appeared on my back today but then again I think it might be shingles so maybe not!

Wow – I’m done and ended up just two pressies short of a Christmas – I did start them last night but it was after 23:00 – and I didn’t think I had the relevant concentration to do them justice. I had a few things to finish today but knew they wouldn’t take that long…
Some more paper baubles (I should probably have taken a pic of the card before I cut it up – that might have been an idea – it was very nice)
A buddy from my ready made ones
A crochet cube lined and stuffed
A fleece (yes all I had to do was hem it)
For the mother in law, who tends to never use/wear presents I thought food! So I made double my Christmas baking…
Chocolate fruit Christmas cake made into individual cakes after seeking advice from Lorna.
Coconut bread – B’s favourite
And some Apricot Crumbles which I’d never made before and mine are blackcurrant.
The best bit – all are edible – which is always a plus with my baking – it’s either really good or really, really, really bad.
And my next to last present – a Christmas table runner…
So other than one more present, which shouldn’t take long, I only have a date with our little furry family member and a set of reindeer antlers – don’t worry I’m not going to use the staple gun. I couldn’t find the staple extractor and since Buddy sleeps on the bed I didn’t fancy waking up with an antler up my nose!
Made – 25/29 with 5 hours 15 mins to go – so that means two get bought (e vouchers) and the other missed the Christmas post date so with the snow as well there was no urgency there)
Panic level – 0/10

masking tape! My name is Paula Kilgallon and I have a brown paper and masking tape fetish!
This week my creative space is, or rather, was full this afternoon of these…
Buddy parcels. Wrapped up ready to got to the post office and then off into the wide world. I can’t show the contents because some people who read this may very well have ordered some!
B said he would take them to the local post office for me, basically so I didn’t drive the car again this week in the miniscule amount of snow that we have had. Then this afternoon when he saw them he got a bit windy –
B: ‘ALL THESE!’
B: ‘Do I have to fill in any things?’
Me: ‘If by that you mean customs labels, yes for some of them you do.’
B: ‘Can they wait until tomorrow?’
B: General chunering.
Me: ‘If you wait while I wrap another one I’ll come with you in my break!’
B: ‘Okay then.’
B will even inconvenience himself to avoid me driving
our his car!
Other creative spaces can be seen here – they may very well to crafty people who have their own cars so there is unlikely to be husband bashing!
I seemed to have lots of bits of stuff unfinished and hanging around. I still haven’t done the curtains for the bedroom that I started weeks ago but I have a valid excuse in that my right wrist wouldn’t at the moment cope very well with the lifting and manouvering of so much material. It also couldn’t cope with cleaning the bathroom or peeling potatoes so B had to do those.
However I did add buttons to this…
which are the five hour baby cardigan pattern, which I adapted to make jumpers from, which also got buttoned and finished off today.
Then I sewed together my first every crochet clothing item other than a scarf…
and turned these – baby socks knit on two needles because I thought that would be way easier than four but holey moley how many loose ends to finish off can one baby sock have…
The above items are for a hospital in South Africa which is helped out by one of our doctor’s receptionist’s husbands and were brought to you courtesy of yarn supplied by another receptionist and some odds and sods I had.
And finally, although I did finish this yesterday, we have Candy Cane Buddy…
whose alias is Barber Shop Pole Buddy!
After the sudden urge to do a Halloween Buddy and a comment regarding Christmas Buddies my creative space has been filled with the following…
I know Gingerbread Men aren’t necessarily Christmassy but I just thought the idea of multicoloured ‘smarty’ dots was fun. I’m toying (get it toying, sigh, moving on) with the idea of adding a tummy button to Rudolph Buddy.
The one in the middle is a representative Elf Buddy as my first one looked like this…
For some reason he reminded me of a China man from old films – I think it was the ‘hat’. However looking at him now I think that with a plain green head that he would be sufficiently Elfy, and although it doesn’t look it in the pics that green is BRIGHT GREEN!
And still on the needles a Candy Cane Buddy…
Yes I am working for my living today- it just happens to be on the keyboard and it’s my break!

Since it’s very nearly Halloween my Creative Space this week contains a suitably knitted Myeloma Buddy…
This is also sitting on my desk…
Bet you can’t guess that it is/was!
I’ll let you know tomorrow, if I remember – which in the case of the above I didn’t which is why it now looks nothing like it started off!
You can see other Creative Spaces here which may or may not include melted things.
